Why TALLOW?

Because it is a sustainable, local ingredient that is easily accessed where I live and I believe it very important to use the whole animal.

Beef tallow has been used for for centuries as a healthy cooking fat and also has been well known for its skin loving magic. It is most like our natural skin sebum (along with jojoba) and helps to protect and nourish our skin.

I use it in my frostings, candles, balms and soap and here is why:

1) Nutrient-dense: tallow has lots of vitamins including A, D, E and K. These vitamins are key to our bodies (and our skin) as they promote health, repair damage, and support overall body function.

2) Anti-Inflammatory: because of all the vitamins and minerals contained in tallow, it has great anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritated skin and because it is similar to our natural skin oil, it is great for sensitive skin and less likely to cause any irritation or reaction.

3) Moisture Rich: tallow is loaded with fatty acids and it helps nourish and hydrate dry skin, a little goes a long way, your skin will drink it up! It also helps to lock in moisture and provides a protective barrier that protects your skin.
